Evil E, Angry LA and Zlowmachine reporting from Rævdalen 23rd and 24th of January.
After a period of dry weather and blue skies, weather changed and gave place for some really good snowfalls in the south eastern parts of Norway. As we realised that we were not the only ones checking out Gislefoss`daily updates, we went into the deep tankesmie on where to go.
The hypothesis that Hemsedal would fill up like a nigerian whore on Karl Johan on a normal saturday, was correct. In addition the fact that winds were much stronger a couple og dalføres away made us forget the big bomtur from last year, and desided to once again set for Raudalen aka Rævdalen. Always nice to be in the position to tell others what a wrong choice they`ve made..
Angry LA was our trasnport this time and he made sure that we found our way to riksvei 51 safely. The SAAB was almost as good as the jumpy, but sucking a bit to much gas for the wannabe sunnmøring. To make up for this, Angry La`s sunnmørspakke filled with sandwiches almost brought him through the weekend. Other than this, a lot of respect to LA for his ability to know when to fill up the tank of his car (engine died and the car rolled the last two meters to the pump!!).
Back to the skiing. We woke up to snow in the air on saturday morning and headed for Raudalen. The welcome we got was as good as we could hope for. Approx 20 cars in the parking, no waiting in the lift (1 koppeheis) and heaps of terrain untracked. 3O cm of fresh snow gave us a very nice day, skiing new lines every round. Both in the trees and in the open areas, the snow was really good.
Tired and hungry we finnished off with kebabs at Khalles korner. Not a very wise choice, raping, gurping and farting the very bad kebab sauce the next 48 hours. As this almost killed us, we desperately tried to overtake and push away the feeling with some amounts of beers, akevitt and the traditional fernet.
Everybody agreed that this was a stroke of genious..... till we looked out the window of the bar, realising that mr.snow had come. And he did not stop before 20 cm of new powder and almost blue skies woke us up the next morning. After a tiny argument about who was most drivable, we managed to get there in one piece.
Sunday gave us even better conditions, good visibility and if possible, even less people around. Check out the photos from one of the rounds. Did not have time for more:-) This day also almost gave us the opportunity for some avalanche training. Luckily the beeper could stay on transmit and all equipment was found.
Hopefully the winter has just started and will bring us more fun!! |
