After a couple of tough years for The DiveMasta’s back injuries to heal, and FlashMasta Grand (explanation later) only focusing on tropical dives for a far too long period, it was finally time to dig up the old tørrdrakt and vast amounts on all the equipment that makes diving in Nordic conditions possible. We snakker fortsatt om around 40 kgs of extra equipment for a few minutes in the water and we can saktens say sometimes: is it worth it? The utgangspynkt was I alle fall perfect on this 1st juledag in Sykkylven – nærmere bestemt on the naust in Blakstad, where lies a very nice wall, descending down to 90 metres. Star sprangeled nightsky and almost full moon. On top of that, great visibility and perfect still water everything was in for a real justification of carrying all the above mentioned stæsj. Ikornnes Dykkerklubb stood som vanlig ansvarlig for the airfilling – which I must emphasize is a great initiative, but sadly a bit slow. We were 8 divers for this night and spent about 3 hours waiting for the tanks to top up with the needed breathing-gas. But the guys have told us that the flaskebanks soon will be in place, and then…I’ll just say ‘just can’t wait’ and we’ll leave it at that. (TIP: fill up the tanks a day or two in advance). However, as we again were reminded of – great diving conditions is not everything when it comes to fully enjoying a dive. Comfortable and durable equipment plays a certain role too. Rumors among the 8 nightdivers had it that several of the dry-suits på mystisk vis had suffered from a remarkable shrinking – probably during Christmas holiday. Perhaps the dry-suit-bad-ass-nisse had been out, carrying out his evil deeds… However after struggeling ourselves into the now (på mystisk vis) pretty tight drysuits with vast amounts of talcum in the openings for arms and head we were now pretty much ready to get wet.
