I received this message with shock 2 days ago: My good friend Stefan Oberländer died in a tragic accident on the Canary Islands earlier this week. At the moment, there's very few details released about what actually happened, but apparently there was some troubles with his wing... Stefan was still alive when they got to him on the ground, but he died shortly after on the way to the hospital.

I have tried to reach Michaela - his girlfriend in Germany - but due to the fact that i'm in Indonesia right now, there have been problems reaching her on the phone. However, all my deepest feelings and thoughts goes to her and the closest family of Stefan!

Stefan was not only a fellow jessbosser, but also a very good friend! We've spent days and months together on the mountains in both the alps and in Norway. Stefan was a great athlete: a pioneer in basejumping, skibase and wingsuitflying in accordance to freeskiing and mountainbiking. He was also a very social person, always contributing with his humor (despite it's German touch - we all liked it :-) and sharp comments. Stefan contributed in so many areas...

I've had the pleasure to share the last 4 months living in Engelberg - Switzerland with Stefan (january - april 2007). Thanks for all the time skiing, joining you on jumps, bicycling, partying, eating my lousy pasta together, sharing beers at Eden - and the most important: all the great discussions regarding our action sports - always coming back to the topic of risks and dangers, trying to do what we do in the safest possible way...

The whole thing is just not fair, and it for sure doesn't seems right in any kind of way...

Stefan turned 36 years old not long ago. He died doing what he loved the most in his life.

I will miss you a lot bro'!!
